Model I
The Model I Hendricks Banjo is our workhorse banjo. It features nickel-plated metal parts and straight grain maple for the neck and resonator. It has a pleasing fingerboard inlay pattern of small diamond shapes of either mother of pearl (MOP) or abalone, and a larger diamond inlay in the center of the peghead along with our standard Hendricks banner. The top and bottom of the resonator side is bonde with ivoriod with an underlay of violin purfling (ebony/holly/ebony) and matches the bindings used on the fingerboard edges. The tension hoop is notched and made from heavy brass. The tuning pegs are Stewart MacDonald 4:1 planets and the fifth string has a Schaller geared fifth. The tailpiece is our own designed and manufactured individual finger style for maximum adjustment possibilities and ease of string changing. The bridge is our own designed, compensated, "Bigfoot" bridge.
When you order a Model I Hendricks banjo, you choose either MOP or abalone for the inlays and you tell us how you would like the maple stained prior to finishing (it can be anything from natural maple to a completely dark walnut stain or in between in a traditional style sunburst). There are two decorative options available at extra cost on the Model I. You can have the diamond inlay in the peghead replaced with our more ornate "spray of flowers" and you can have the violin purfling replaced with a choice of one of three patterns of marketry wood banding.
Below are some examples of the Model I.
